Which Ohio businesses have a sketchy past? New search tool lets you find out

Want to avoid businesses with a troubled legal history? A new search tool on Attorney General Dave Yost’s website lets you check them out before you check out with them.

The Consumer Protection Lawsuit Search, unveiled Friday, lets consumers review whether businesses and individuals have been sued or indicted for violating state consumer-protection laws since 2013. There are also links to the AG’s databases of consumer complaints and court judgements against businesses.

“President Reagan was fond of saying ‘trust, but verify,’” said Yost, a Columbus-area Republican, in a statement. “This tool will allow Ohio consumers to verify, then trust.”

The database was developed in-house by Yost’s Information Technology Services and Consumer Protection sections, according to a release.
