Flanked by his predecessors from both parties, Attorney General Dave Yost on Monday urged the General Assembly to eliminate Ohio’s 20-year statute of limitations on rape and include it alongside murder as a crime that can be prosecuted at any time.
Mr. Yost announced the release of a letter urging lawmakers to join more than half of the states in the country that do not have a statute of limitations on rape. It was signed by former GOP state attorneys general Betty Montgomery and Jim Petro, and former Democratic attorneys general Nancy H. Rogers, Lee Fisher, and Richard Cordray, the Democratic nominee for governor last year.
“We can’t let a rapist run out the clock on justice,” Mr. Yost said in a news release.
